MARCO GASTINI
About

Marco Gastini (Turin 1938 – Turin 2018), began his training at the laboratory of his father, a marble-worker, where he acquired familiarity with techniques and processing materials. In 1960 in Turin, he graduated from the painting school of the Albertina academy and, immediately after, won the young artists’ prize awarded by the city of Turin. From this point on he began to concentrate on interests which were to lead him to a particular condensation of his subjects, something that was in tune with the “Minimal” atmosphere of the times: by moving from the need to overcome the stagnation of late non-representational painting, and to arrive, at first, at the definition of a form of painting, marked by elementary traces and gestures approaching the fields cultivated by contemporary “analytical painting.”
